Results: Ballot Proposals in Washtenaw County

There were a number of ballot proposals decided on Tuesday, including two countywide measures. All of them passed. 

COUNTYWIDE PROPOSALS:

#1: PROPOSITION TO AUTHORIZE THE RENEWAL AND RESTORATION OF A .50-MILL ROAD AND NON-MOTORIZED MILLAGE TO PROVIDE FUNDING TO MAINTAIN, RECONSTRUCT, RESURFACE OR PRESERVE ROADS, BIKE LANES, STREETS AND PATHS.

4-year, half-mil renewal. Will generate nearly 9-million dollars in first year of collection.

#2: COUNTY CONSERVATION DISTRICT MILLAGE PROPOSAL

6-year, two-tenths of a mill tax For the sole purpose of funding the operation of the Washtenaw County Soil Conservation District. That includes programs to assist residents in the protection of surface and groundwater quality, increasing wildlife habitat, woodlot management, reforestation and tree planting, invasive species removal and soil erosion reduction, and providing conservation resources, education and assistance to residents, and strengthening the local food system by promoting sustainable agricultural practices

FREEDOM TOWNSHIP-ROAD MAINTENANCE MILLAGE RENEWAL

5-year, quarter mill tax. All collected taxes to be applied to road maintenance. Expected to generate about $40,000 in first year of collection.

NORTHFIELD TOWNSHIP-POLICE PROTECTION MILLAGE RENEWAL PROPOSAL

5-year, 4.3 mill renewal for the purpose of providing funds for police protection. It is expected to generate over $1.6 million dollars in the first year of collection.

SALINE TOWNSHIP: RENEWAL OF ROAD MAINTENANCE MILLAGE

4-year, one-mill tax for maintenance of local roads within Saline Township. It is expected to generate over $111,000 dollars annually.

SCIO TOWNSHIP: PARKS AND PATHWAYS MILLAGE PROPOSAL

10-year, .65-mill tax for the purpose of funding the capacity to develop and maintain nature preserves, parks, trails, recreational opportunities, including a network of nonmotorized pathways. If approved it is expcted to generate about $764-thousand dollars in the rest of the 2020 calendar year and allows the township to seek matching grants from other entities.
